sunned and even got into the pool, they had turned up the heat and it was supposedly 87 degrees. Didn't feel that warm but it was okay until you got out, then it was a little cool.
Friday... We got up and left Portland about 9:00 on our way to Salem to meet a friend of ours that we used to sail with in Austin. It was great visiting with Dan and reminiscing our days on the lake together. After our visit we had to gas up so stopped at a Safeway for the cheapest diesel. We stood and watched while they filled our tank, as I said before its against the law to pump your own gas in Oregon. We finally got on the road about 11:30 on our way to Prospect, OR (Crater Lake).
We pulled into Crater Lake RV park, checked in and got all set up with the exception of the Dish TV. We may have a problem with getting TV reception as there are so many trees. The RV office advised us a check-in that on Saturday morning they are having coffee and sweets at 9:00 am, then on Saturday nite its hot dogs with all the trimmings, birthday cake and ice cream and live music. Then Sunday morning they are doing a pancake breakfast. All of this compliments of the RV park. We'ver never stayed at a place that does this kind of get togethers, especially for free. I do have wifi here but no AT&T phone or verizon.
Saturday morning we got up to 50 degree weather. It was a little cool taking Blaze out to check his p-mail. (get it? p-mail in lieu of e-mail) Anyway we had a small breakfast as wanted to have coffee with the RV group of people at 9:00. Went to coffee and had a nice time meeting and chatting with several couples in the park.
Then if was off to bike to Crater Lake.
A waterfall when you enter the park
What you see in the water is a boat. They give boat tours of the lake.
We had to prove we rode the bike to Crater, thus the pic.
This is a pumice castle that formed. You can read about it in the pic below.
Lots of snow around the lake in places and yes the white stuff you see on the lake is snow. I've seen more snow since we been traveling than I have in my whole life.
Thinking of ya'll in Austin. LOL
Between these trees you can see a forest fire. We later found out it was a controlled burn.
While up by the lake it was cold but as we got back down to the RV park is was HOT. We stopped and had some lunch at restaurant in Prospect. I believe they have 2 places to choose from. We wanted pizza but they weren't open until 3:00 so opted for one with home cooked food. After lunch we couldn't wait to get back to get out of our riding jackets and into some shorts.
Blaze and I took a walk in the woods later this afternoon. It was cool in the shade of the trees but when you got in a sunny area you started to sweat. We both headed for water when we got back. More to follow. Stay tuned.
