Garner - Friday

OMG!  How do I begin today?  Left Fredericksburg about 11:30 heading to Garner State Park.  As the wind was howling as usual Pat took a route that he thought might deter the wind.  We decided to take 16 to Medina then 137 to Garner State Park. Going to Kerrville on 16 it was a nice road; after that I would never recommend that anyone drive this road unless they are on a motorcycle.   Needless to say this road is great for a 2 wheeled vehicle but not for a six wheeled vehicle with an attached auto with a total length of 60 feet.  There were steep grades, and curvy roads.  A lot of curves, there were times that if there had been a car coming in the opposite direction we would have been in BIG trouble.  Then we got behind a county work force that was painting the white stripe down the road.  As this is a no pass route at one time we had to wait at the bottom of the steep grade so that we could get a run at going up the hill as we saw the work truck had reached the top.  We finally got past the county paint truck. Then there was a time when I was sitting on the floor in front of the desk with both feet against the bottom drawers so that they would not slide out because we were heading downhill on a very curvy road. Blaze was crying, all in all a horrific adventure. We made it.  I feel lucky to be alive.  I think Pat can now say he is an expert at driving the RV.

It was another nightmare at the Garner State Park check-in.  There was a long line and a take a number system.  Okay, got thru check-in and found our spot.  Got set up and as I got ready to do some work that’s when I found out that Verizon doesn’t work here, only AT&T. (Verified this with the Park)  They do have wifi but I would have to go to the check in station and work off the battery on the computer in my car or sit outside.  Pat then told me there is no TV reception here.  Also found out to dump the RV we would have to disconnect from everything and go down the road to the dump station. Did I mention the smoke??  The wind blew in the smoke from the Ft Davis fire.  The day had been clear and pretty and was now hazy with smoke and the smoke smell wasn't too good either. At this point I decided it was time for a drink.  We each had a drink then took Blaze for walk and found the river not far from our RV. Decided it would be great to come back tomorrow when it was warmer and float around.   I can’t wait for tomorrow. (LOL)  Be sure and stay tuned.

Thursday

All our friends loaded up and left this morning for the Chili Cook Off in Seguin.  We'll miss them.  I worked most of the morning (had trouble my with my VPN connection).  Pat washed a load of laundry at the camp's washateria and found things around the motor home to  work on.  I e-mailed Wallgreens in Fredericksburg to renew my prescriptions (I love the internet).  At 1:30 made our trip to Wallgreens and Wallmart.  Our outing for the day. I started reading a book today. I'm hoping to read more now that I have more time.  Cindy gave me 4 books before she left.  I guess I won't need to add any books to my IPad for a while as brought several books with me to read.  This evening was uneventful, no happy hour with friends.  Looking forward to Friday as we will head to Garner State Park. On the road again. Till tomorrow.

Wednesday

This morning I blogged using my IPad. So cool! I went golfing with Pat and the gang. No I didn't play golf but did get to drive the cart at times. Had my phone and IPad with me so could handle business. It was great to be outside, the morning started out cool but then warmed up. It was a fun time. Got home and worked. Pat showed Cindy how to trim her dog using the flo-be while giving Blaze his hair cut. Happy hour at Larry and Cindy's then home to watch Survivor. We'll be moving to Garner State Park on
Friday. We'll spend a week at Garner then on to Marathon to meet up with the BWM club riders at the end of the month. I'll keep you posted. Ciao for now.

Tuesday

Pat brought me coffee to bed along with my computer so I'm blogging from bed this morning. The wind has slowed down today and Pat is going to play golf. Tuesday's always seem to be heavier work days than normal. I worked over 5 hours today. Pat got back from playing golf around 3:30 and since he hadn't had lunch we went To eat Mexican food. Came back and joined everyone at Cindy and Larry's for happy hour in progress. There was a couple there from New Mexico and then a lady from Hye joined us. These are all chili cooks that are going to Lady's State cook off in Seguin. The cook off is this weekend. Bucky and Carolyn are leaving tomorrow and the rest of the gang are leaving Thursday morning. After happy hour came back to the RV and watched TV. The days go by so fast. Till tomorrow.

Monday

With the wind still blowing at enormous speed we decided to visit the Admiral Nimitz Museum and the George H.W. Bush Gallery.  As it takes a while to go through both Museums we took a break and ate at an outside cafe with live music (The guy shown was his own 1 man band with the help of computers, etc)  After lunch continued our visit of the Museum. Still not through the complete tour we left and came back to the RV as Pat was expecting a phone call.  While Pat was waiting for his call I worked.  Back to the George Bush Gallery to finish the tour.  Stopped by WallMart on the way home.  Still full from lunch ate popcorn for dinner.

Sunday

Pat woke me up at 7:00.  The wind is already blowing pretty good and supposed to increase during the day.  This wind has kept us from riding around the area like we wanted. Went and took pictures of the camels (camel sightings are rare in Texas), washed the car and went to HEB.  Stayed in most of the day watching some movies. Maybe Monday will have some exiting things to report.  Later Gator

Saturday

It's Saturday, no work today.  Rode the bike to Llano and stopped in at the BMW Rally, nothing much going on so we decided to see if Larry was at his new house in Llano.  Got to Larry's house and met up with both Lisa and Larry.  Chatted for a bit and left to go eat lunch at Castell.  Was hoping to have a burger but they were serving bar-b-que.  Pat and I split a half a chicken and 2 ribs.  Some of the best bar-b-que I've had,  the chicken rated right up there with my Dad's.  Sorry I didn't take a pic for everyone as the place was hopping. After lunch rode back to the BMW Rally and ran into Ron, Dan and Mark from our BMW Club. We told them about the bar-b-que at Castell but Mark doesn't particularly care for the owner of Castell's Grocery/Bar so they were going to eat bar-b-que at  Cooper's.  Fought the wind back to Fredericksburg, Pat said we only did 90 mph passing people but with the wind felt like over a 100 mph. Pat took a nap and I played games on the computer while watching some TV. Pat gave Blaze a bath. That's all for today.
