April 25-27, 2012 Athens, TN

Wednesday.....Left Nashville and on the way to Athens stopped at the Stonehaus Winery.  This winery/gift shop had the most wine related gifts I've ever seen.  Tasted and bought 2 bottles of wine and then we're on our way again.  Made it to Athens to the Over Nite RV park and got set up and I went to work.

Thursday......Rain, rain and more rain. It seems to rain everywhere we go.  I'm blaming it on Pat. We had hail in the morning and later when we got a break in the rain we rode into Athens and ate lunch and grocery shopped.  The store brand name here is "Laura Lynn".  How cool is that, they named it after me. LOL  Later in the evening we had more rain and small hail.

Friday.......Woke to sunny skies, I worked in the morning and then we drove into Chatanooga to visit the Tennessee Aquarium. As the day progressed so did the clouds, even had a little rain on the return trip back to Athens. Unbeknownst to us it must have been school outing day at the Aquarium.  If we had seen the 3  buses before purchasing our tickets we would have come back on another day.  Kids everywhere and loud.

The Aquarium is a nice with everything built around one huge aquarium in the center of the building.

The weather is supposed to be sunny and warm over the weekend so we should do a little bike riding.  Hope to have pics for the next blog......

April 24,2012 Nashville, TN

Tuesday...This moring the temp was a little warmer than yesterday, but still in the lower 40's. Got up and started work.  Pat was perusing the pamphlets we had picked up and found a winery that was not too far away.  Upon reading the info found that this winery was co-owned by Kix Brooks of Brooks & Dunn Country Group.  The winery name is Arrington Winery in Arrington, TN.  It's about 23 miles from the south side of Nashville so took a drive.

We got a tour of the winery and were told that they sell most of thier wine directly from the Arrington Winery location.  Each weekend beginning in May they have bands that play to 1500 to 3000 people each weekend.  The winery has a large area set up with picnic tables and they encourage you to bring a picnic lunch, buy thier wine to go with your lunch and listen to free music. What a deal and a moneymaker, the marketing person definately knows what they are doing.  Of course they also have the co-owner Kix Brooks, while no longer touring, drops by the winery for frequent vistis. That will draw the people in.

Here are some pics.....

   These are roses, so beautiful.

Notice the arm hanging from the forklift, LOL

We're on our way to Athen's TN.  This will get us close to the "Tail of the Dragon" ride.  I must get a patch to go on my jacket indicating that I rode this road. It's a motorcyle thing.

Keep waching for for more pics and adventures.

April 23, 2012, Nashville TN

Happy Anniversary to Mom & Dad, the big #63.  I got a voice message from Dad today during our all  Tour of Nashville wishing congrates to Pat & I a belated Anniversary and yes Dad I did remember that this was you and Mom's anniversary today but didn't know it was #63.

We got up this morning to 43 degrees and weather predicting heavy winds and they were right, at least the sun was shining.  We had breakfast and then we're ready for the big Nashville tour.  The tour we signed up for picks us up at the RV park and brings us back after the tour.  I thought this was great. No having to find a parking spot and someone else is driving while we can ogle all we want.
We took the tour that combined 2 tours in one so it wouldn't interfere to much with with my working.  We viewed the downtown area by bus and then actually walked through the Ryman Auditoriam and  the Country Hall of Fame.  There is so much history here and a beautiful city.  This was the morning tour and then we were on on own for lunch.  Opted to dine at the Hardrock Cafe which  was across the street from the bus/train station where the buses pick you up for the tours. I had a a killer sanderwich at the Hardrock that had poached chicken, dried cranberries and goat cheese served with a side salad, YUM. Pat had a bbq sandwich with the trimmings.

After lunch we took the tour of the Stars Homes in Nashville.  It was interesting and we got to see some very, very nice homes but it was a long day of sitting on the bus.     Next time I will  opt to take 2 separate tours and not try to do everything in one day.  We left at 8:15 and didn't get home until 5:15.  Poor Blaze, but of course he was fine and happy to see us.

Enjoy the pics we took today....

It was a long day and we are tired, I 'm sure it's early to bed tonight.

April 20, 21 & 22, 2012-Memphis to Nashville

Friday.... Happy Anniversary to Pat and Me. (Helen, thanks for the Congrats)  We left Big Springs, AR hoping to outrun the rain, but it didn't work, so drove in the rain part of the day nd it was still overcast when we pulled into the RV Park just down the road from Graceland and the Hearthrob Hotel on Elvis Presley Drive.  We didn't arrive in Memphis until around 3:30 so just relaxed for the rest of the day and planned for Saturday.

Saturday..... We awoke to 50 degrees and gray skies.  We had breakfast and got dressed and then at 9:00 headed to all things Elvis to visit Graceland and all the trimmings.  We actually thought we might be on the Elvis gift shop tour as  there are 11 gift shops you go through as you tour all the things that come with the Platinum tour (which we signed up for).  We thought getting there early we would avoid some of the crowd.  Wrong, they bus people in and there are many groups that go on the tour.  The total tour took about 3 1/2 hours.

It was still overcast when we left our Elvis tour and returned to the RV for lunch.  Then low and behold the sun came out and it warmed up.  We decided to take a car ride around the town of Memphis and then to Millington, a Navy base where Pat was stationed for about 6 months, then we drove through the Shelby Forest.  We took Blaze with us as I was feeling we had been neglecting him.... he's so spoiled.

Here we are at a Park near downtown on the Mississippi River

The above are pics of Graceland taken from Elvis Presley Drive

Sunday......This morning we woke up to 48 degrees but the sun was shining.  We had breakfast then got the RV ready to roll down the road to Nashville.  We got to Nashville a little after noon, got set up, and had leftover bbq ribs that Pat had purchased for last nights dinner in Memphis.  I like Texas bbq the best.

The sun peaks out every so often but mostly its cool and overcast.

We received a very sad e-mail this afternoon from Wayne regarding his wonderful friend Sarah.  Sarah passed away today.  Wayne had told us that Sarah had suffered a fall on Thursday, was taken to the hospital with a broken hip and a badly bruised shoulder and this news today was very unexpected.  Sarah will be missed, she was a lovely person.

Stay tuned for the Nashville tour......
